Molly Face

I get to love on this face every morning when I wake up. It makes my day.

Molly came to us one Sunday about 6 years ago. Geoff was out front watering and this huge white dog came walking up to him. She was precious. He looked at her collar and noticed her name was "Sassy". ugh. So he called her owner - phone disconnected. He put her in our backyard for safekeeping and the next day called the vet on the tag and asked if he knew how to get in touch with her family. He said he would give them our address and phone number. They never called or came by.

The first thing we did was change her name to Molly. It fits her so much better than "Sassy". Then we took her to our vet and determined that she was about a year old, part Great Pyranese and probably part something else, oh and she was pregnant, expecting puppies in about 8 weeks. Ok, so now we know why they disconnected their phone. But still, this dog stole our hearts.

Molly doesn't kiss - much. Occasionally when she's feeling really safe, she'll sneak her tongue out and touch your nose. Those moments are gifts. Molly doesn't jump on anyone - unless she decides you're playing and then watch out - she'll knock you over. That seldom happens either. Molly's great with kids. She'll just sit there and let them crawl all over her. Molly sheds - handfuls of white hair. And Molly barks - loudly - at night. I've learned to either let her big butt in or thank God for His protection over us.

But she's pretty much the perfect dog. I think she's an angel. Really. I mean it. I think God sent her to us just when we needed her. She has been an amazing comfort for me when I have dealt with some real crap from the past. She sat at my feet as I journalled, getting out all the anger and unforgiveness I held in my heart. She would look up at me and I would know I am loved. It healed my heart and I felt comforted. When I really needed it she would stand up and lay her big ol' head on my lap just like I needed to do with Jesus. She showed me how to love and be loved.

I'm not sure why but today I just needed to share how much this big white ball of fur means to me. I love her.

You forgot an important fact about the "perfect dog." You tell me to let "her big butt in" at 2 a.m. when she's been barking and carrying on. Besides that, you pretty much are the perfect wife, and Molly says "ruff ruff" translated, "Candy, get Geoff to let me in. Now!"

I miss those "Dog" days!! I have had theee best dogs growing up in Cali, and since I've moved to Hawaii ( 13 years ) I've lived in places that never allowed animals..your journaling brought back fond memories of having a dog!! thanks for the memories!

I love reading about dogs. My Murphy is lying (laying?) beside me as I type this. We will be leaving him in the motel room while we go to the first night of lectureship. My husband and I went to Highland this morning, then to lunch with two people who are getting married in Jan and we have known since they were in elem school. They have reconnected in the last year and it is so great to see such a happy couple. I don't want to be a name dropper - but her last name is Teague.

I am so thankful that God has given us the gift of dogs. I know life in the Cunningham residence would be starkly different if it were not run by Rose and Cash. Our precious fur family has two very different personalities. One is very relaxed and stays out of your way until you love on her and the other is very exuberant and ready to topple you at any moment. I love them both so much!
