Beaver Creek

I said I'd tell you about my trip to Beaver Creek so I guess I should do it. First off, it was so very incredibly cold that I didn't get outside as much as last year. It was a very relaxing, restful 3 1/2 days. I took advantage of the spa facilities and had a facial and a massage. The first time I had either of those was last year same time, same place. And I haven't had either one since. What does that tell you about me? For years it was a well known fact in my closest circles that I didn't really like to be touched or messed with. That has changed but I'm still not all that comfortable with total strangers manhandling my body. I say it has changed among my friends because I really don't feel that way anymore. I love to give and receive hugs and I don't mind a bit someone I know rubbing my shoulders or feet or back. That probably happened for me during the time we were doing all those spa nights with our small group from church. The fact that someone was usually praying over you while they did it certainly helped. I mean who wouldn't want a piece of that action? But I digress...back to Beaver Creek. I enjoyed the facial way more than the massage. The young woman who did my facial had a gift. I told her when she was leaving the room that she had the gift of comforting touch. She was kind of take aback by that. I don't think anyone ever really noticed before. Or if they did they hadn't told her. But it was true. I was so relaxed when she was done. Maybe next time I'll just do the facials and skip the massage business. This particular spa also has a water (for lack of a better word) regimen that you can go through that was really very enjoyable. I spent an hour or more doing that routine which is another surprise. All my life I have had an unhealthy fear of water so I'm not prone to utilizing water for relaxation. That is, until this last year. I cannot believe I waited until I was 50 to learn how to float. But I did. One day all alone in our pool I thought I'd try it. It worked! I loved it. Now that's a place I cannot wait to get back to when the weather warms up.

Back to B.C. I met some really great people. I watched a lot of very interesting people. I thought I'd do some reading - but I barely did. I thought I might write. I didn't at all. I wanted to walk. It was too cold. I wanted to take pictures but our room only looked out over the front of the hotel unlike last year. I did, however, eat some amazing food, drink some fantastic wine and generally relax and enjoy myself obviously doing nothing. By the time the end of the trip rolled around I was beginning to get bored and I was ready to go home where all the action was taking place.

Last weekend we had two of our friend's teens stay with us and that was way more fun for me. Rachael, the 15 year old and I got a wild hair and decided to do wild hair. So we dyed each other a pink streak. Don't worry. It's underneath so you can't really see it unless I want you to. Here's a goofy picture I took to share. You have to really look for it, there on your right blending in with my sweater. Another funny thing I'm almost afraid to admit except for the fact that I'm seemingly living my life out front and honest these days. I've always wanted to do this. Crazy? Oh well...call me crazy. But I waited until I was 50 to do it. What is up with this recurring theme in my life? I wonder what else I've always wanted to do but waited on. (That will probably scare Geoff when he reads it.) Which brings me to another thought I've had. I would never have dyed that streak in my hair if Geoff hadn't encouraged me. That's one thing I love about this man, his gift of encouragement.
I cannot imagine what I'd be like today without him in my life. Thank you God I do not have to find out.

I hope I didn't scare anybody off with this post/picture (the one of me - not Geoff). After all, it's only hair and if I want I can have it covered up when I go get my much more acceptable complete all over hair color on Tuesday. But I don't think I will.
