more God moments

This weekend was one of the greats! I got to go here:



with my incredibly fun husband. We had a fantastic time doing this:



We saw two Cardinals games at Busch Stadium which is about to be torn down and rebuilt into some newfangled, modern monstrosity, which I'm sure will be wonderful too. But, there's something about old stadiums that I love. It oozes years of history and the new stuff just doesn't feel the same. But baseball is baseball and I love it! It was a real treat because they had a bunch of Cardinal greats in the stadium, Ozzie Smith, Lou Brock, even Mark McGwire. Not to mention Albert Pujols hit a grand slam homerun on Friday night. Ya just don't see that everyday!

The purpose of our trip was business for Geoff, but I got to tag along and I was also treated to some God surprises. As we checked into our hotel there was a woman there with extra tickets to the Joyce Meyer Ministries conference that I didnt even know was in town. She gave Geoff one of the tickets so I got to go hear Joyce Meyer on Friday morning with about 5,000 other women from all over the world. The best part was Cece Winans did some of the music. She is amazing. And Joyce Meyer is hysterical. I'm not a huge fan of hers but this was a treat. It seemed like it was a little extra icing on the cake. I didn't attend the entire conference because Geoff and I had stuff planned, but the part I did experience was something else.

On Thursday night when we arrived God gave us another treat. We had dinner at a very delicious Italian restaurant with Roger Wilken, who was one of the presenters at Geoff's business meeting. What a great guy! Roger had at one time been on the staff of Young Life for 20 years. You have to know that anyone involved with Young Life is fun and exuberant and totally in love with Jesus. That describes Roger. And it's contagious! I hope to see more of this guy in the future. Surely God didn't just want us to eat dinner with him once. Besides, this dinner brought back some wonderful memories of my high school days when Young Life was one of the things that kept me sane. I loved it. I loved the leaders. It helped give me a faith base to turn back to later in life. I'm forever grateful.

But one of the biggest things that happened to me this weekend was that I did some growing (I don't want to say "up"). I did some things I've never done before. Oh, I've been to conferences and wandered around major cities before, but always with a group or at least one other person. But this trip I was on my own quite a bit. And I didn't just sit in the hotel room! I know for some of you you're wondering what is wrong with this woman? Well, it just takes some of us longer to grow up than others. This weekend I ate alone in a restaurant for the first time in my life. I wandered around a major city that I wasn't living in all alone for the first time. I attended a conference where I didn't know a single solitary soul. And I had a great time! I met new people. I was blessed and I think it's because I was obedient. I think God was wanting this for me and I followed His lead. I was willing. Go figure. I could have spent most of the weekend alone in front of the tv in my hotel room and instead I had a great adventure. Ok, a mediocre adventure, but great by my standards! I love people and I got to experience some new ones this weekend. It was awesome.

Let me end by saying "Oh man, I haven't been able to get on here in days!!!" Everytime I tried to post I got this: "Blogger is temporarily unavailable due to planned maintenance. This downtime will last 1 hour from 4:30pm - 5:30pm (PST)." Unfortunately the hour lasted days on end. Then I realized it was my favorite place marker - something's off there. Nevertheless, I'm back!
