Word for the Year

It's that time of year again - time to ask God for your word for the new year. Last year my word was "wonder". I was really excited about that one. It's amazing how one word can work it's way into your world. Sometimes it's slow and gradual and sometimes it becomes apparent early on in the year. But I guarantee you that if you will ask you will receive and you'll get a word that will rock your socks off at some point. I believe God is like that - He wants us to want Him to touch our lives. I imagine Him grinning at us and thinking "Okay, now, let's have some fun with this word." I know my word comes from Him each year. He places it in my mind or in my heart and I have a knowing when it is revealed. My word for 2007 was given to me about a week or more ago. I'll let you know what it is on January 1st. (I don't want to influence anybody else's word.) Now sometimes it's not such a fun word as "wonder". One year I had "trust". Although I think God still had some fun with that one, I didn't enjoy it quite as much as I have "wonder". It's always been a growing experience and I've never regretted asking. My word for 2007 has already begun to open up in my heart. Our experience with the Sheets family this last week has been a catalyst. Oh how they're on my heart. Please continue to pray for them.

Let me know what your word is when you get it. It will be fun to look back this time next year and see what we all said.

Bear with me a minute while I talk about "wonder". This year I've experienced more of God in nature than ever before - in my own backyard. Thank you Geoff for opening up this world to me through the purchase of the macro lense for my camera. I've shared some of the pictures here. Trust me, there will be many many more. I've had to put my picture files on dvd's. It took 4 dvd's to store them all. There are a whole lot of them. I've been filled with wonder as I focused on the smallest intimate details of a flower or a butterfly or even a moth or bee. (Have you ever noticed how much hair there is in the world or how many stars? Hair and stars are everywhere.) And I've been filled with wonder as I look up - into the sky. And I've wondered about many things this year too. I have had a lot of why questions rambling around in my brain and now in my heart. But I've also been taken into a world of wonder as I soak in His presence. I've had words spoken over me this last year that make me wonder what God is up to and where He is taking me. I'm anxious to find out. I'm anxious to go there with Him. Well, I could go on and on. But mostly I'll just ponder this stuff in my heart and when I'm prompted I'll try to share with you.

Word of the year is a neat idea. Need to give this some thought - but I think it'll be love.

beingselfish.com - go there - see why Scott's last name is "Self"

kindness... I just love Jewel's song "Hands"
"In the end, only kindness matters..."

Thank you for this idea, Candy - I'm going to keep it in my heart all year!

Candy, do you remember that my word was "togetherness"? I really thought that word was going to mean a different kind of togetherness not the togetherness that comes when my kids are stuck to me like super glue...its wonderful..togetherness..to be loved. Whitney said to me yesterday after I was gone for two days.."Mom, I missed you, don't ever go away that long again." Then Sam said, "Mom, come spoon with me." Its a beautiful thing when we all crave to be together and that is where love lives, our togetherness with each other is a holy moment where God abides. Don't know what the word for this year is yet..I am taking Whit to Dallas today and I will think about it.

I love this idea, Candy. God and I haven't been talking as much lately as we probably should be...guess that's my fault, not His. But maybe I will ask Him for a word for this year. And maybe I'll be listening closely enough to catch it.

Love you - so much! Happy New Year!
