It's been awhile since I last blogged. I guess I got busy reading everyone else's. This whole world of blogging fascinates me. I love reading what people write about their lives and their insights into life and I love reading the comments others leave. In some ways I feel like I know these people better than people I see and "know" in my daily life. It's funny. We'll write things on a white computer screen we normally wouldn't maybe say to someone we see every other day. I kinda love that. And it makes me sad, too. Are we just too busy to sit down and talk to each other - is the tv on - are there other distractions that lead us to superficial conversations instead of what we really think or feel? Or is it just me? You know, I think it's just me. Now that I write this I imagine the rest of the world having meaningful conversations beyond the mundane. I know I do too, it just doesn't happen all that often. I feel the need, the desire for a four hour conversation over dinner with friends and family. No tv. No sports talk. No distractions. Just a table, food, good wine, and men and women conversing together - not women at one table and men at the other. What are we all thinking? What do we really want to say? I think it would be interesting to find out. Can we do this with both sexes and no sports talk? I don't know. Maybe I'll have someone over and find out.

Candy - I agree with you! I had dinner last night with a couple of girl friends and an old college friend of one of the girls and before I knew it more than 3 hours had slipped away! It was wonderful just visiting with them and finding out what is happening in their world.

I think you've hit it exactly dead on: it's not that people don't have meaningful conversations -- it's that none of us do it nearly enough. I sometimes wonder why we're content to settle for sports talk and chit chat when there are so many fascinating people to talk with. It's like settling for chocolate chip when there are tons of fresh baked cookies. ^_~ (sorry -- chocolate on the brain.)

I do like, though, that this medium tends to "free" people a little bit. There are people whose blogs I read whom I do feel like I know somewhat better than, say, some of the people I work with, or go to church with. And I like that I get to "know" people I might otherwise never have encountered this side of heaven.

Blogging is such an introvert's world, although it seems like some form of extraverted exhibitionism. There are both sorts out there, but I find it's most often the introverted in life who are the most prolific and open bloggers.

I hope, though, that you'll write more often. It's been neat getting to "know" you. ^_~

Candy I didnt know you were a blogger! Imagine my suprise as I stumbled upon your blog. Some of my fellow grad students got me to become more of a dedicated blogger (even though I have been slacking recently due to camps). It is even going to be a way to communicate with my ministry supporters when I move to Kansas in August.
